Sharon, you asked some great questions and I think I can answer some of them. I am sure that Kristin and June will just in to answer the others. Camp Shout Out was modeled after a camp initiated in Illinois by a mother and step-father of a boy who stuttered. The model was tweaked and final we decided to move it over to the Muskegon, MI area where I have lived all my life and have many connections. I think that one week was definitely not long enough to accomplish everything we would have liked. We are working on ways to extent the time at the camp for the campers (SLPS and grad students arrive 2 days before campers) without making it cost prohibitive. The day was set up similar to a typical day at summer camp with the exception of a combination of individual, small and large group therapy session. Using those sessions as a springboard we were also able to give reinforcement throughout the day, including during recreational activities, that focused on a camper's individual goal(s) while at camp. There were so many wonderful and emotional things that happened at camp I wouldn't know where to begin to describe that part.
