Tina, You are correct in your understanding that sometimes it is difficult for SLPs and grad students to gain experience working with young people who stutter. It is also true that in some parts of the country it is difficult for those who stutter to find high quality, evidence based therapy. This was a frustration that I experienced first hand in 2007 as a parent, when my 2.5 year old daughter woke up from her nap with a sudden and severe stutter, I was unable to find a local therapist with adequate experience in pre-school stuttering.. As both a parent and an SLP I thought this was unacceptable and have since that time been working with a fantastic group of people who all have the goal of blending high quality therapy, clinical training and recreation. It's been a long and worthwhile process and perhaps someday you could participate in this 'one-of-a-kind' training program. Good luck with your studies. Julie
