Laura, thanks for your questions. The therapy provided at camp was uniquely based upon each individual's current needs and desires. For some this was in the physical domain and for others the emotional domain and for many in both domains. Camp Shout Out does not provide a 'one size fits all treatment approach' but rather focuses on the individual at that particular time and place. The needs and desires of all vested parties (parent, camper, SLP) are discussed and woven into the treatment plan for the 4 night/5 day program. This is true as well for the clinical training portion of the program for the attending SLPs and grad students. They each, in a variety of ways, were given the opportunity to learn what it is they need to learn. For example, one group of therapists really wanted to have more guided practice with fluency shaping techniques so this opportunity was provided around a campfire after the camper's day had ended. There was also the opportunity for case study problem solving some of which occurred at the end of the dock under a star filled sky. Because all participants resided at the camp during the program, opportunities for individual and small group conversations happened within a variety of settings and time frames. Thanks again for your questions and comments. Julie Raynor
