Being a graduate clinician, I am always looking for techniques and strategies to help enhance my knowledge within our field. I strongly believe that wait time is one of the most critical aspects of helping a client succeed, and it always needs to be remembered that everyone is different so everyone will need a different amount of wait time. The “clinical nugget” is a great way to teach younger clients about the importance of wait time. Making the association of “brain time” for children who stutter, will help them better make an association to something they will easily understand. The “clinical nugget” is something I will keep stored and feel very comfortable using with a client in therapy. I also believe that the pathway is very beneficial when explaining that everyone travels that pathway at different speeds. I can see this working especially well with boys if you explain the pathway as a racetrack: some cars drive faster than others do.
