Thank you, Dr. Drayna, for posting such a fascinating article! As a graduate student studying to become a speech-language pathologist, I am incredibly interested in learning about the possible causes of stuttering to better serve my future clients. My previous courses in fluency have focused on the theories of stuttering, but it was disheartening to learn that the results of every theory were inconclusive. Understanding the role that genetics plays in the causation of stuttering would be beneficial to our work with PWS. This is a topic of great interest in our field, and it is typically one of the first questions asked by parents of CWS. Hopefully, with more extensive research, we will be able to determine if genetics is indeed a cause of stuttering, and the implications of that research will help people understand and demystify the disorder that is stuttering.
