The role of the National Institutes of Health is to find out the "why" of medical disorders. However we all recognize that this information can be painfully far away from something that can actually help those who stutter today. I like to point out that biomedical research can be a very surprising business, and many times information from unlikely places can be put together to make progress on therapies more quickly than ever imagined. The goal for all of us is to be vigilant for such opportunities.
