The study of vocal communication in mice is in its infancy. However, there are a number of outstanding scientists who've become interested in this, and I think we can expect a lot of progress over the next few years. There are some animals, such as songbirds, in which people have observed communication disorders that sound a little like stuttering in humans. However there are very great differences between vocal communication in humans and that in other species, so it can be risky to make too many assumptions based on animal studies. I do feel that mice, which are mammals and have very powerful tools available for genetic studies, may be a very promising animal for future studies.
