Stacy - Thanks for reading our paper and for your questions and observations. I do think this type of program/therapy approach would have very positive results with middle school age CWS. Most of all, for this age child, I am certain our therapy approach would have great effects on the parents and what their role is in the therapy process. Kevin and I are committed to the necessity of meaningfully involving the parents of any CWS in the therapy process. To not do so would be unethical and surely sabotage any hope for positive change. Educating successfully addressing parents regarding the development of - and the effects of - fear of stuttering and the fear of talking in children who stutter should be a major focus in the therapy process. In my private practice, I have found two books to be of great help to parents of CWS that I work with: "VOICE UNEARTHED - Hope, Help and a Wake-up Call for the Parents of Children Who Stutter" by Doreen Lenz Holte and "Regression Therapy For Stuttering" by Dr. Jerome Halvorson. I strongly recommend both for parents of CWS as well as professionals working with clients who stutter.
