Kay - Thanks for reading our paper and sharing your comments. I have used SKYPE with my teen clients and their parents and found it to be very effective. In my private practice, the goals in working with teens who stutter - and their parents - focus on increasing interaction and verbal output, decreasing communication apprehension related to stuttering and talking, and parent education/interaction activity development. The teens and parents I work with have had negative experiences with "technique" focused therapies and are looking for therapy to decrease the fear of stuttering, the fear of talking, and freedom from these fears. My view regarding school??? Here it is - In general, I have found most school based professionals have very limited, if any, training or experience in providing therapy of this nature. In addition, the range of all the disorders and numbers of students school based therapists are responsible for providing therapy to offers almost insurmountable challenges in providing the necessary parental guidance required for increasing the opportunity for a successful therapy outcome with a teen who stutters. Kevin may chime in differently...
