Actually, I deal with the problems of visual involvement on a regular basis as I'm a blind A/SLP. I have also worked with some other blind stuttereers (I am a pws) which has created some interesting situations. My intent in asking my questions is to encourage some thought about all of this since other clinicians may come across visually involved clients who cannot make "normal" use of vision if any at all. My work with clients involves at least part of my therapy time in a quiet place where I can hear their movements even down to eye movements. I tend to prefer to sit next to a client rather than across from them many times. I do sometimes use a sighted assistant if I suspect there may be something visual that I am not getting. I also touch my clients more than a sighted person to look at breathing, movement, muscle tension, etc. I don't like leaving clients hooked up to electronics such as emg all the time. Of course, I discuss things with the client at the beginning of therapy to insure that we are both comfortable with the way that I work. I have never had a client either decline or quit therapy because of my blindness.
