Hello Dr. Eldridge and Mr. Retzinger, Thank you for your article. With so few SLPs trained to work with TWS, the use of the Internet could certainly increase access. We are learning in graduate studies that parents can be trained to provide guidance to their preschoolers in increasing fluent speech. Sometimes parental involvement is all that is needed to help these preschoolers achieve significant fluency. My question is: Do you think that a training program for parents via Skype would be enough for successful intervention for a teen? In other words, if parents were extensively trained in how to best help their teen overcome stuttering and deal with their emotions regarding speech, would parental guidance be enough to help a teen overcome stuttering and the associated fears? Would such a training program be considered "therapy" in the licensing sense or could it fall under a more general category and thus not be tied to the licensing laws that could restrict access to Internet programs? Thanks for your work.
