Hey there! I'm a graduate student and am doing my thesis on issues with teletherapy. One of primary importance is bandwidth. Unless the TWS is in an area that supplies ample bandwidth, the transmission will suffer. In facilitating therapy for fluency, this may cause significant problems. Additionally, most cameras are positioned at the top margin of the screen area. In accordance with our social conditioning, we naturally want to look at the face of the person who we are speaking to. Unfortunately, this means that the camera captures our eyes as looking downward, therefore not having the eye contact that is perceptually important on the receiving end. The benefits to the use of technology with this population though, can be tremendous as kids are more and more tech-oriented. How are you dealing with the problems of bandwidth and eye contact?
