Maria, This is a question that often comes up. Our experience though is that a teen and his/her parents are best served when they are on the same page. The parent and the teen need to be educated. The parent and the teen will benefit from a support network made possible secondary to being in an intensive group program. The parent and teen need to have the same goal for therapy.... a goal that they develop together. So... we as clinician's need to find a way to get them together. It is also easier for a teen to be working with his "embarrassing" parents, when other teens parents are also present.
