Hi Jana, I haven't seen a response to your question yet, but I do have an opinion. I attended an SFA workshop a few years ago, and Francis Cooke and Willie Botteril presented on what they were doing at the Micheal Palin Centre at the time. It was at a time when all of the hoopla was out there on the intervention approach, which came from down under. Well, the approach from England also has its merits. I tried to implement what I saw there in my own school district working with the preschool population. My "cadilac" plan was to have parent present for all therapy sessions. Sometimes it was the dad, other times, the mom or both. We videotapes sessions, and we played with the child. They led or I might, but the goal was for the adult to support communication. The purpose of videotaping the session was to allow the parent to consider their level of communicative support, or listening and following the child's lead, vs trying to change the way the child talks. My point is that you can do that and educate the parents while not really providing direct intervention to the child - that is if you define it as having the child do something to intentionally change the way he or she is speaking. I'll leave it at that, and I welcome the discussion. Kevin and Michael, thank you for lending your topic to this broad discussion.
