Sheryl, Thankyou for this article. You have me thinking about how I could be using rating scales perhaps almost every session. Clients need quick, easy to understand, graphic ways to appreciate small improvements over time and rating scales would do this well. And, as an SLP, I would really benefit from the seeing the client's perspective in this format. How do you talk about satisfactory/unsatisfactory change over time and how that might affect a therapy plan? Do you and a client define points on a scale, like, a 5 would be taking part in class discussions, a 3 would be talking to a new peer at lunch.....each client would be different. Is it better to leave the scale points undefined so that discussions would be more open-ended? Just brainstorming...
