First of all, I'd like to say thank you for sharing your experience with us! I think you are an inspiration to others having difficulty with those negative emotions associated with stuttering. I also believe this diagram would be so helpful for other therapists to use so as to illustrate the different aspects of stuttering. I am currently in graduate school, and what I have gathered from my studies is that focusing solely on the physical characteristics of stuttering, as your first therapist did, does not result in long-term beneficial outcomes. With your new therapist, where, would you say, did you begin "breaking" the cycle? And what kinds of activities did you do at that stage? Now that you have been in therapy, would you say the focus during your sessions is more on the thoughts and emotional responses than fluency? Thanks!
