When you discuss negative projection with clients, is it your goal to correct their exaggerated expectations, or to pretend that listeners really aren't bothered by stuttering. The former would be reasonable and useful. The latter would be whistling past the graveyard, and potentially harmful. The fact is, some people do have negative views of stutterers, some will ridicule and be dismissive behind one's back, and some will see stuttering as an employment handicap. Stutterers don't need to dismiss these facts or pretend they don't exist. They need to understand them rationally, and learn to deal with them as they occur.
