Good question. The ease and speed of changing the negative thoughts varies quite a bit. Bring me a 7-10 year who has a relatively short time-line of negative/traumatic stuttering events and I can reframe the thinking in a hand full of sessions. That child will learn traditional techniques, also. Adults often have some rigid beliefs (i.e., projecting) and avoidance habits from years back. The ability to provide CBT to pws is necessary skill set for SLPs.
