Hi Tim, Many thanks for another wonderful paper. It contains so many points with which I totally concur. Wearing a prosthetic device (the Edinburgh Masker) for more than 20 years enabled me to gain very useful social skills. Conversely, some PWS tend to remain on the fringes of conversation/interaction and are, therefore, somewhat deficient in this important area. Our thoughts play such an important part in our daily existence - not just in relation to stuttering. When we harness our thoughts, we take charge of our lives. Many people (again, not just those who stutter) are preoccupied by what they believe others think about them. They constantly perceive that they are being judged. The dialogue between you and your clients was very insightful. I feel that the advent of the Internet has enhanced the lives of many PWS. One relevant point (to your paper) is that many have become desensitized to hearing other PWS speak as a result of chatting via Skype etc. And finally, ‘The King’s Speech’ granted the stuttering community its 15 minutes of fame. Judging from what I observed, it grasped the opportunity with both hands. Many people stepped out of the shadow into the public gaze and allowed the spotlight to illuminate their ‘darkest secrets’.
