CBT compliments traditional fluency shaping and stuttering modification techniques in my integrated model. If I did only CBT, I might cross that line where scope of practice is blurry. You can say that asking someone to do stuttering surveys, draw their stuttering, fake stutter, and journal about stuttering all touch on CBT. If an SLP did not have any CBT skills at all, he would not serve his patients who stutter. The Stuttering Foundation of America and many other credible continuing education portals are ever increasing training products for SLPs that teach CBT to SLPs. Social phobia is huge in pws. CBT makes up a portion of my sessions. I am highly skilled in CBT. My patients are thrilled I can offer it to them.
