Mindreading is a nick name for projecting- preuming to know what someone is thinking. You might enjoy looking at David Burns' Feeling Good Handbook. My past battle with stuttering and then meeting a woman named Florence Filley at UW-Madison was my inspiration to enter SLP. Florence was clinic director at UW-Madison. At 23 I met someone who could see into my stuttering soul. I moved to Atlanta in 1987 and became my own therapist. My story Freedom of Speech is on my website under "articles." In grad school I had to deal with all the cognitive distortions mentioned in my article and more. When sitting in clinic behind the 2-way mirror I would project that my supervisor, parents, and all others would judge my stuttering as making me incompetent to become an SLP. That thinking went with me into my first 2 years working as an SLP. I had to do all this CBT on myself, use voluntary stuttering, join Toastmasters, etc. Cheers
