Good question with many pathways to several answers. If I understand your question correctly, you ask 'if one just allows himself to stutter and stutter and stutter, he will not be holding back and then cannot project..." In theory, perhaps. In practice it has its challenges. One presupposition is that if a pws just freely stutters he will not connect the old thoughts to it. Some thoughts: Voluntary stuttering and just freely stuttering can take a long time. I worked on that for 15 years and had hit a distinct plateau. When I learned CBT I became a Sherlock Holmes with my stuttering. I wanted to know exactly what caused my anxiety before stuttering. In eliciting the exact thought and reframing it, removing anxiety, and then speaking with ease was a profound victory for me. Many adult pws I have helped have also really enjoyed this. One pws I helped recently used CBT to remove anxiety about saying wedding vows and NAILED it. I think he would have preferred to eliminate it than stutter all through his vows. Have you read Jack Menear's classic article "And the stuttering just died?" Cheers
