Thank you for your kind words Kelly. I have had some therapy and outside assistance. Neither of which I think helped me to accept my stuttering really. I grew up in a small country town (pop.3000ish) and my stuttering was never raised as an issue and I was never teased at school. My problems came directly after secondary school ended where suddenly it became a problem and I was directed to go out into the real world. I drifted between jobs and unemployment for a few years lost. I did receive some speech therapy when I was about 20. This was smooth speech. Smooth speech worked really well for me but I was slack and let it slip away. I was also a long way from support groups. One day in my mid-twenties I drew a line in the sand and refused to take a back step due to the excuse of having a stutter. I worked through various jobs and university to eventually become a lecturer. I have undertaken a McGuire Programme course. Again I found this very useful but I stopped using technique due to lack of focus. Basically I was too busy with everything else to be concerned about it. The techniques did not fail me, I failed the techniques. Basically my speech was not a priority. My life was.
