Hi Elyse, thanks for reading and the great question. Toastmasters has provided me with so many benefits, and countless others. I tried to list them all in my paper. The main things I have gained from my 5+ years in TM is courage and confidence. I am no longer afraid to get up in front of any group and speak, and do so willingly and extemporaneously most of the time. That was never me before. I hated to talk and now you can't shut me up. As for NSA support meetings, I no longer attned the formal groups in my area, as they do not meet my needs, but on my own and with a friend, we have formed a "Chat & Chew" group that is a monthly social gathering for people who stutter, to just get together, chat, drink, eat, laugh, share, have fun and not worry about following an agenda or time constraints. We have been doing it monthly for almost 18 months now, and its great. Sometimes we hang out for 3 hours and never talk about stuttering, but we all stutter. That's really what its about to me - living everyday life the way everybody does, and i just happen to stutter. ~Pam
