Ms. Mertz, I must say, to someone who rarely steps out of her comfort zone, you are a true example of bravery and confidence that I strive for. Inspirational. Thank you for sharing! I'm in graduate school for speech pathology and for our first assignment in fluency class, our professor had us voluntarily stutter in three different face-to-face conversations and during three different phone conversations and then write a paper about our experiences. Everyone in my class received different reactions but I think we were all equally touched by the assignment. Voluntarily putting ourselves in such a self-conscious and fearful place was eye-opening! The anxiety I felt before I started those conversations allowed me to relate to your story (and hopefully my future stuttering clients) a little better and I am grateful for that. I was wondering what kind of feedback, if any, you received from your fellow toastmasters concerning the voluntary stuttering you asked them to do. Also, did you try voluntarily stuttering as a method of eliminating the anxiety associated with stuttering? Did it do anything for you? Thanks again, Marissa
