It has been my experience that some (if not many) PWS are, unfortunately, deficient in interpersonal/social skills. I have encountered cases where even those who acquire greater fluency confide that they lack the art to fully engage in conversation. This is understandable due to the fact that some tend to remain on the fringes of social interaction, thus denying them opportunities to develop the expertise that ‘fluent’ people progressively attain from a young age. In view of this, would you ever recommend to your clients that they should consider seeking assistance in this important area? Alternatively, should SLPs be trained to provide this help?
