Lisette, thank you for your kind comments. You bring up some very interesting points. You wonder if people who have participated in programs or treatments that use costal breathing have an increased risk of “vocal problems down the line.” At the moment, I am not aware of any research that supports or rejects this question. I can’t recall the users of costal breathing I have heard from complaining of voice or vocal issues. You ask if it is the “costal breathing which is reducing stuttering, rather than the pausing afforded by the breaths, or the extra confidence gained by a supportive community, or just being allowed to talk about stuttering.” I wonder the same. Excellent, points.
