Howdy Bob, yes I am out of air at 40. The point is that one does not need to inhale at all to initiate speech production. My definition of 'at rest' is that I do not take any inhale to begin. Kids are being told to 'take a deep breath' still in 2011. Because they are concrete in thinking, they tend to take the high chest breath. I hear it directly from the parents and kids. The deep breath is beyond counterproductive- it is flat out an igniter for more forecful stutters. Yes, breathing does not cause stuttering. A breath before a stutter can amplify it. Signing off. Very good paper.
