Hi Jillan: I suppose one could argue that people who stutter might be better able to teach things like avoidance reduction and desensitization since many of us who stutter have seen the benefits of those things. They don't always make sense to people who don't stutter. I agree that we should try to make sure that our treatments have evidence to support them but, once again, if we hold most treatments up to that high standard we would probably find that most things we do in stuttering lack a sufficient evidence base. The most important thing you note is that all clients are different and that most treatments work for some but not for all. Thanks for your observations.
