Now that the ISAD 2011 conference is just about over, I want to thank everyone for their insightful and helpful comments on our paper. The comments really added a lot and, I think, gave us all a lot to think about regarding stuttering treatment in general, not just costal breathing. I also want to reiterate that the purpose of this paper was to try to understand costal breathing – to critically evaluate it in the positive, constructive sense, not to criticize it in the “neener, neener, neener” sense. Most stuttering treatments work for at least some people and trying to understand how and why they work is of great interest (and great importance) to me, both as a person who stutters and as a speech-language pathologist. Finally, I want to express my deepest thanks to Peter Reitzes for being on top of the threaded discussion and responding to everyone’s comments. I took on more than I should have, particularly early in the month, and because of those other obligations was not able to check in on ISAD as often as I would have liked. I appreciate that Peter covered for me. Often, by the time I was able to read the comments, Peter had already provided a thoughtful response and I had nothing to add. Thanks, Peter! I really enjoyed working with you on this project, as well as the StutterTalk shows. Finally, thanks to Judy Kuster for doing this ISAD conference every year. See you next year, everybody!
