What a great question! I think that whether a sibling is supportive or not has a lot to do with 1. the sibling :), 2. How the family view stuttering, in general, and 3.) Whether siblings are involved in the therapy process. My view is that many times, SLPs support the parents and teachers with education about stuttering and understanding the therapy process, but peers and siblings are left out of the mix. My best advise for helping to bring siblings to a point to with they can be a supportive partner for the child who stutters is to get them involved! The interesting thing about this exercise is that, even for some of my students, their siblings' responses were a PLEASANT surprise. I guess we never know what is going on in someone's thoughts until we ask! ) Thanks for posting!
