As a graduate student studying fluency disorders, I found this article to be very applicable to what we have been discussing in class. I had been introduced to the idea of the iceberg analysis before (and continue to believe it is a great representation of the massive effect that covert stuttering plays in the life of a PWS), but this was the first time I saw a picture associated with the isolation of a covert stutterer. I really like the image of a person standing in limbo between the stuttering world and the “fluent” world. The isolation and discomfort that this image displays, I believe, perfectly demonstrates how a PWCS must feel every time they attempt to open their mouths to communicate.
