This is an issue with both covert and overt stuttering. There are plenty of PWS who don't seek help on their own.... often it is a scary prospect, particularly when you are very embarrassed by it. Its easier just to let it alone and do nothing. But as thousands of us who stutter have found out... its more fun to stutter with friends! The decision to seek help is a personal one. Its not hard to offend someone by suggesting they should get help or even go to a support group meeting. If you decide this is something you might encourage a friend who stutters to do, you might take a "round about" tact... something like talking about the movie, The King's Speech... and perhaps suggesting that the King might have benefited by the support groups that are in place today.. or how brave the King was to seek help or that even though he never talked about it openly, all of his subjects knew. Best of luck.. thanks for thinking of helping those who may just need a little encouragement.
