This article made me think about covert stuttering in a new way. Those that stutter may believe people who stutter covertly are “lucky” in that they can pass as a person who does not stutter. But after reading this article, I realized the fear of people finding out coupled with the fear of stuttering could be crippling. No one likes to keep secrets from friends and loved ones, and it would be difficult to do so and keeping something so hidden could be more shame about their stuttering. Which brings me to my question, do you notice that those that stutter covertly seem to identify with more shame with their stuttering because they don’t talk about it with people regularly?
