I think it is a natural reaction to the predicament of stuttering to try to conceal it.. "going covert" is only possible if the characteristics of your stuttering allow you to conceal it.. so for most who stutter its not an option. Keeping your stuttering secret emerges from childhood and only some can play it out later in life, never having to openly confront it.
