Thank you Dr. Rentschler! I found your article to be very interesting with many meaningful analogies which depict the challenges of both “surface” stuttering and covert stuttering (e.g., iceburg analogy). When thinking about PWSC as those who can effectively mask their stuttering, does that mean that those who stutter openly just don’t have that physical ability? Is it more the case that disfluencies of covert stutterers are less severe and more easily covered? Or, do the emotional aspects of covert stutterers, such as denial and embarrassment, play more of a role…meaning that people who stutter openly have confronted their stuttering openly? Thank you!
