You begin a parag. with "Those SEEKING treatment for covert stuttering".... very sig. words! I treated one who did not seek treatment until her son became 8 and wanted to talk after her work and his school.. she was too exhausted and retreated to habit: tele off the hook, no talking; sleep time! But her son protested more and more over time and got her to find help (for both of them!). Another traveled from Australia to Miami (to see Mom...and tell Mom she was going to see me -along her travels- for stuttering). Mom had a fit! Her daughter did not/does not stutter. Where'd she get THAT notion? This is a 27 yr old woman mind you! Once in my office, she was truly an excellent covert PWS; once nudged, the stuttering revealed itself as sooo severe! Noting the price and time for tx, she decided to continue her trip to see all of the USA -- to put her money there rather than treatment. That threw me; it should not have, I guess. I wonder when someone like this reaches a critical time in life when they seek treatment..... or do some never seek it?
