I am currently a graduate student at Illinois State University and I found this article to be both interesting and useful. I currently have an adult fluency client who blames all of the negative things that have occurred in his life on stuttering. In past semesters, clinicians have worked with him on improving his fluency, but this semester we are working solely on cognitive restructuring. I think that this idea ties very closely into this article about covert stuttering because in both instances, changing the person's idea about their stuttering is KEY. In reality, no person who stutters is ever going to be fully successful in their therapy if they are not able to accept and face the fact that they are a person who stutters. A client can learn all the fluency techniques they want, but when are they ever going to use them if they're a covert stutterer?! All in all, I really thought this article was beneficial, because there are not too many illustrated, detailed articles regarding covert stuttering (although it is a fairly common problem). Very interesting and something I will keep in my resources for a long time!
