Thank you so much for sharing your story! As a graduate student in SLP, I am coming to realize that even though I am expected to have expertise, the individuals that I will be working with are the true experts on their own disorders and experiences—in short, you are so right! So much of what you said just sunk deep into my brain. I would imagine that your realization that dealing with the communication disorder will reduce disfluencies (and not the other way around) is something that takes a long time for a lot of PWS to reach. I agree with you that, at the end of the day, effective communication is achieved by the PWS themselves; my hope is simply that in my future profession, I can be a facilitator for success.
