Cindy, My honest opinion is that the public schools are ill-equipped to help kids who are severely stuttering. Recommend private treatment, make sure the parents know that the chances of stuttering simply going away many years after onset are small, get the child and the family involved in support, NSA family, Friends, StutterTalk, etc. I think as a school SLP you can plant seeds, but you may not be able to water them enough to really grow on your own. You can help the family form alliances with other resources that will help grow the recovery from stuttering. Thanks for your question, Best Regards, ~Reuben
