Dr. Shields, thank you for sharing these experiences. I'm a graduate student who is fairly new to the area of fluency and stuttering. I was curious about how clients who are particularly sensitive of or embarrassed by their stuttering, respond to using voluntary stutters with strangers. Are most open to this method? If they aren't, what are the steps to getting them to the point where they are comfortable in doing so?
