Alice, I would say that children will make meaningful progress when allowed some control over what they do, when and where they do it. I'm not sure I could say they progress faster, but I think the progress made is more lasting and functional for the child. I firmly believe that people will progress at the rate that they are prepared and able to progress. I doubt that we can push that rate up much in a functional sense. But, we certainly can facilitate change that the client is ready to make. Hope this makes sense--thanks for asking a good question! Lynne
