Ashton, I'm so pleased to hear that you are enjoying learning about fluency disorders. That is music to my ears, since so many students and professionals don't feel comfortable working with people who stutter. You asked where the idea for surveys came from--good question. I have no idea who originated the idea, but it likely has its basis in the field of psychology. Many people with fears have been helped by working out a hierarchy of most to least feared situation/people for whatever problem they were experiencing, and then engaging in the feared behavior first in the least fearful situation (or person) and gradually working up as they gained confidence. SLPs have been using surveys with adults for many years as one way of getting them to gradually move outside their comfort zone for speaking and stuttering, for letting others know that they stutter, and/or to build confidence and reduce fears. I simply worked out how to make surveys more kid-friendly; and, I'm sure that I am not the first to do this type of activity. Lots of great ideas are out there. A good SLP collects those ideas and figures out how they might work for their particular client. Best wishes to you, Lynne
