[[Mindfulness what a beautiful word. I am so glad to see someone that stresses the importance of this technique. While I personally am not a person who stutters I have used a spin off of mindfulness for my daily anxiety. I feel as though how we view ourselves is the key to life. The awareness we have over our thought process and our actions plays a large role in our happiness and success in life. To find a method of relaxation that allows a person to gather their thoughts and comfortably push through the usually uncomfortable situation is lovely. Congratulations for being a brave soul and sharing your method of happiness, this takes courage and strength.]] >>> Dear Jenna, its nice to meet you. And thank-your for sharing your experience of mindfulness. Mindfulness, like happiness, can be defined in various ways, but, ultimately, it means being present and wise. >>> Mindfulness allows us to see the bigger picture, to consider the various threads that contribute to what we see, feel, and sense so we may respond rather than react as we habituatiolly may to both inner and outer circumstances. >>> The method of mindfulness I practice is shamatha-vipassana, a Theravedan Buddhist method supposedly taught by the Buddha himself, that encourages gentle openness and acceptance of what we encounter inside and outside of ourselves. This gentle approach to being aware and accepting offers an effective alternative to the habitual response of struggle and avoidance associated with stuttering problems, at least in my opinion. >>> Yes, it does take courage to face what we would rather not, but, ultimately, we realize that in doing so we enlarge our experience of life rather than shrink it. That is something we all learn sooner or later. >>> Again, thank-you for sharing your thoughts and experience. Regards, Ellen-Marie Silverman
