How do we avoid Inadvertently teaching secondary behaviors?

Dear Vivian, Thank you for the helpful chart. If taking a deep breath before each word is helpful to a client who stutters, ie he/she exhibits less repetitions on the beginnings of words, would you still advise against it? My concern is that this might be teaching a secondary behavior that they currently do not have (breathing in deeply when he/she thinks they might stutter). Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
