Unfortunately, we can only survey the people we can find. Folks on the self-help databases are not necessarily involved in support groups: Many, if not most, have registered on a web site but have never attended a meeting (and previous surveys found significant differences between participants and lurkers). So I would define the support group database as people who are concerned enough about their stuttering to visit a web site. That's just a fraction of the 3 million stutterers experts estimate are in the U.S. -- many of whom may be unwilling to identify themselves as people who stutter. Another under-surveyed group is the folks who have successful therapy from savvy SLPs like you and walk fluently into the sunset, never to be heard from again. We know these folks are fluent when they leave the clinic, but it would be great to survey them a few years later.
