The numbers from your survey results that struck me the most were the parents reporting that: making changes in the speaking environment at home (78.7%) working with their children on speech homework assignments (65.3%) observing (57.3%) participating in therapy sessions (45.5%) learning to conduct therapy sessions at home (54.1%). It becomes very clear to me that parental support is so important and varied. Thinking of ways an SLP/teachers/counselors/family/friends can draw a parent in so that these percentages are much higher than this is key. If this isn't done, the person who stutters cannot get the "full circle" support that they need? I am curious what certain factors affect the low percentages.....Do parents think there is no hope, time, support or what is it? Of course, this will depend on many different dynamics of each and every family. These dynamics could be negative and/or positive and sets the stage for different qualities of support.
