Dear Dr. Tetnowski and Mr. McClure I found your article very informative, and the statistics quite interesting. I wonder what role having other developmental disorders play in some of the responses. Would the 20% of teens with Autism Disorder Spectrum, ADD, etc. be more inclined to answer that they avoid speaking situations a lot, and that stuttering has affected their social/family life a lot? Would there be value in further teasing out the differences between teens who stutter, without other developmental disorders and teens who stutter with developmental disorders? And, do you believe school speech-language pathologists are turning away children who stutter because they do not feel adequately trained to help them? Or is it due to a lack of speech-language pathologists within the school system or the inability to accurately identify students who stutter?
