John and Jim, Thank you for conducting the survey on the impact of stuttering and parental involvement. The information gave me a better understanding of the impact of stuttering on teens and their parents. As a parent we want nothing more than for our children to feel confident and safe in the schools. It was very disheartening to see the high percentage of teens being bullied or teased, and feeling embarrassed due to stuttering. I was wondering if more bullying and teasing takes place during the middle school years than high school, or is it about the same. I know middle school is a very difficult time for many students; students are trying to fit in, so if someone is a little different or has a different speech pattern, they are targeted by the bullies. Which I can only imagine makes coming to school everyday extremely difficult. Do you have some suggestions for improving a teen's self-confidence and detering bullying and teasing by his/her peers?
