Sharon, I think that the issues of bullying are finally being addressed. Just this morning, I saw a report on CNN about bullying. It was not specific to stuttering, but nonetheless, the problem is being addressed. I do not have any data regarding whether bullying is worse in middle schhol or high school, but in my experience, it is very common in middle school, but can be more intense in high school. This is based only on my personal experiences and not any hard data. What I really suggest to kids/teens being bullied is to get involved in a group where they can feel special. Martial arts, faith-based groups, etc. are good outlets for kids who stutter. The best group though is an NSA or FRIENDS group that can build there confidence about communication. I am not sure why it is so hard to convince teens and parents to come to that first group meeting. the impact is almost immediate and long lasting. Support is one of the markers of long-term success. It is documented in teh literature by Laura Plaxico and colleagues. Thanks for the question. John Tetnowski
